1989 Pontiac 20^th Anniversary Turbo Trans Am, Car #830 of 1,555 built.

This original condition 1989 20^th Anniversary Trans Am is number 830 of the 1,555 limited production, and is in excellent unmodified condition with only 12.300 miles on the clock.  The car shows very well, with clean original paint and an excellent condition interior.  Multiple Pontiac Show and best in class winner.  All mechanical systems in good working order, all gauges, radio, antenna, lights, hatch pull down, etc all working.

As with most Turbo Trans Am 20^th Anniversary models, it is fully loaded with leather, A/C , AM/FM cassette with redundant steering wheel controls, power antenna, power windows, tilt, and all the luxuries of 1989.   Engine compartment is clean, and features original  TTA spark plug wires, brand new radiator, new coolant overflow and washer fluid bottles, and custom fit replacement coolant heat shield blanket. Also features custom embroidered turbo hood insulator.  Recently fully serviced with all fluids, brand new AC Delco battery, and T/A performance billet differential cover upgrade.

Car shows exceptionally well, but as with any 26 year old original car, there are a few minor blemishes and a couple professionally repaired chips in the paint (very hard to find). Bottom front of nose has some paint cracking due to flexing fiberglass over the decades, and as with all of these cars, the driver seat bolster shows wear, but not split or cracked through.   The wheels are good, but do show some crackling of the clear coat on the chrome outside rim areas. Other  parts replaced or service since 2011 include front struts and shocks, cam position sensor,  replacement original borg warner 3.27:1 gears,  replica Pontiac Indy 500 windshield decal, headlight switch, auxiliary cooling  fan relay, new power antenna, and battery disconnect.  A/C system was serviced and charged in 2012. In May 2015, the heater core was replaced at the same time the radiator was.

Car also comes with a “show-N-go” hidden front license plate bracket,  20^th ann. door handle inserts,  20^th anniversary owner’s manual supplement,  89 Firebird owner’s manual,  laminated factory window sticker, PHS letter to previous owner (2007) confirming VIN 1G5FW2173KL242970 to be car #830 and various other 20^th anniversary memorabilia. Tires are Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position  RE960AS 245/50 R16 purchased in August 2010 and with only about 2000 miles on them.   Includes a custom fit Dustop indoor car cover.

The History

What makes the 1989 20^th Anniversary Trans Am special is that it was the fastest US produced 0-60 sprinter in 1989 at any price, and fastest production Trans Am ever built. This was accomplished by sending the 1,555 GTA’s from Pontiac to PAS Inc, where they were outfitted with the Buick 3.8 liter (231 cid) V6 turbo powerplant from the 1986-87 Grand National.  They were modified with different  heads, different pistons, larger GN style intercoolers, and high pressure fuel regulators, among other modifcations.  GM rated the Turbo TA at about 250 HP, not to over-shadow the Corvette, but actual GM Dyno numbers put it closer to 300HP stock. This allowed the 20^th TA to be the first production car to pace the Indy 500 in 1989 with no performance modifications needed. The 1989 Turbo Trans Am carried a hefty $31,223 MSRP , and due to its very limited production, incredible speed, and fully loaded no options package, it is a highly sought after third gen, and growing in value quickly.
